Jose Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission of the European Union (EU), will visit the University of Pittsburgh on Thursday, the opening day of the G-20 summit.
He is to address an invitation-only luncheon. A statement by Pitt today did not indicate the location or start time of the event, and a spokesman could not immediately provide additional detail.
Mr. Barroso is expected to deliver remarks about opening a new era for global Europe, according to the university.
Mr. Barroso is a delegate to the G-20 representing the European Union, whose 27 nations have a population of 500 million. In February 2006, Mr. Barroso toured Pitt's European Union Center of Excellence and European Studies Center and gave a lecture.
Mr. Barroso is a former prime minister of Portugal and has been European Commission president since 2004.
