As was first reported earlier today by the Post-Gazette, Duquesne University and the soon-to-be-completed Consol Energy Center, will host NCAA first and second round men's basketball tournament games March 15 and 17, 2012.
"Duquesne University is proud to bring one of the premier sporting events in the nation back to Pittsburgh," said Duquesne director of athletics Greg Amodio in a news release. "The past success of the event, from administration and planning to great fan support, played a major role in securing the bid. We look forward to working with the city of Pittsburgh and the state-of-the-art Consol Energy Center in putting on a first class event."
Ticket information will be released by Duquesne as it becomes available.
The selection marks the fourth time the Duquesne University has been chosen to host an NCAA basketball championship. Duquesne hosted the NCAA men's first and second round in 1997 and 2002 and the NCAA women's east regional in 2001.
All three events were played at the Civic/Mellon Arena.
