WPIAL Class AAA: New Castle rushes past Blackhawk

Justin Fleo set a New Castle rushing record with 276 yards, as the Red Hurricanes rolled to a 33-7 victory against Blackhawk in a Parkway Conference opener.

The victory marked the first time since 1987 that a New Castle team has beat Blackhawk at home. The Red Hurricanes (3-0, 1-0), are ranked No. 4 in Class AAA.

Fleo carried the ball 20 times and scored on runs of 1, 62, 1, and 62 yards. New Castle also scored on a 40-yard pass from John Matarazzo to Darrian Rice.

Blackhawk (1-2, 0-1) scored on an 8-yard run by Christian Mulig.

Sam Johnston threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, as the top-ranked Jaguars (3-0, 1-0) defeated winless Trinity (0-3, 0-1) in the Big Seven Conference. Johnston was 9 of 15 for 150-yards.

Matt Hundenski threw three touchdown passes to Mark Ross, while Rushel Shell rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns, as the No. 2 ranked Vikings (3-0, 1-0) posted a road victory in their Parkway Conference opener at Ambridge (1-2, 0-1).

Greensburg Salem 28 Albert Gallatin 6

Matt Adams rushed for 186 yards on 29 carries and scored on a 1-yard run to lead the Golden Lions (2-1, 1-0) to a Keystone Conference win against the Colonials (1-2, 0-1).

West Mifflin 10 Elizabeth Forward 9

A missed extra point was the difference in this Big Seven Conference opener. The Titans (3-0, 1-0) jumped out to a 10-0 first half lead with a 39-yard field goal by Alex Durrani, and a 26-yard scoring pass from Imir Sanders to D.J. Hayes.

The Warriors (2-1, 0-1) scored on a 21-yard field goal by Nick Kalpakis, and a 33-yard pass from Corey Sevick to Gerald Johnson, but the extra point attempt failed.

Laurel Highlands 19 Yough 14

The Mustangs (1-2, 1-0) scored on a 28-yard pass from Carmen Congelio to Matt Shull with 17 seconds left to beat the Cougars (0-3, 0-1) in the Keystone Conference.

West Allegheny 46 Moon 6

Mike Caputo rushed for 240 yards and scored on runs of 71 and 5 yards to lead the Indians (2-1, 1-0) to a Parkway Conference win against the Tigers (0-3, 0-1).

Mars 27 Plum 0

Austin Miele rushed for 153 yards on 16 carries to improve his season totals to 379 yards on 56 carries, as the Planets (2-1) beat the Mustangs (1-2) in a non-conference home game.

Montour 45 Ellwood City 10

Philip Peckich ran for 116 yards and three touchdowns, while Dillon Buechel threw for 127 yards, as the Spartans (2-1) beat the Wolverines (0-3) in a non-conference game.

Franklin Regional 42 Fox Chapel 21

Steve Liberatore threw for 209 yards, while Chad Bowman ran for 207 yards, as the Panthers (2-1) handed the Foxes (2-1) their first loss in a non-conference game.

Uniontown 21 Derry 13

The Red Raiders (2-1, 1-0) recorded a road victory in its Keystone Conference opener against the Trojans (0-3, 0-1).

Ringgold 59 Southmoreland 14

The Rams (2-1) scored 56 points in the first half, en route to a convincing non-conference win against the Scotties (0-3).
