South Fayette was not impressed by the Class AA No. 3 ranking of Keystone Oaks (2-1, 2-1) going into a Century Conference game last night at the Lions' home field.
South Fayette (3-0, 3-0) claimed a 28-22 upset victory against Keystone Oaks (2-1, 2-1) in a game more decisive than the final score. The Lions led, 28-6, in the fourth quarter before the Eagles scored two late touchdowns by Matt McCann.
South Fayette's victory was engineered by Christian Brumbaugh, who passed for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Brumbaugh completed 16 of 25 attempts without an interception.
Brumbaugh threw scoring passes to Ryan Ross, twice, covering 3 and 25 yards. He also hit Josh Patterson with a 15-yard scoring strike.
Penn State recruit Paul Jones saw his first action of the season in rallying the No. 5 Vikings (3-0, 3-0) to a win at Quaker Valley (0-3, 0-3) in the Century Conference. Jones, who missed the first two games because of a ankle injury, completed 18 of 33 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns. Quaker Valley led, 15-8, at halftime.
The Rebels (3-0, 3-0) spotted its Century Conference rival a 3-0 lead before scoring 26 unanswered points at Dormont Stadium. Anthony Rizza led Seton-LaSalle (1-2, 1-2) by throwing a touchdown pass, rushing for a touchdown and returning a fumble recovery 27 yards for a score.
The Indians (3-0, 3-0) held off host Kittanning (1-2, 1-2) in an Allegheny Conference game. Reggie Mitchell led Shady Side Academy with fourth-quarter touchdown runs of 70 and 34 yards to finish with 109 yards rushing on five attempts.
The visiting Eagles (1-2, 0-2) prevailed over Northgate (0-3, 0-3) in a battle of teams that were looking for their first win of the Century Conference season. Shayne Dotson led South Park with 132 yards rushing. Dotson scored the decisive touchdown on a 14-yard run. Northgate committed five turnovers.
The Ironmen featured the running tandem of Delrece Williams with 206 yards rushing and James Caldwell with 127 yards as Steel Valley (2-1, 2-1) routed host Cornell (0-3, 0-3) in the Century Conference. Williams scored three touchdowns, capped by a 45-yard run in the third quarter. Caldwell also scored three touchdowns with his longest scoring jaunt covering 42 yards.
Host Center (3-0, 2-0) routed New Brighton (0-3, 0-3) in the Midwestern Conference as the Trojans rolled up 425 total yards and 17 first downs, including 374 yards on the ground. Aaron Law led Center with two touchdowns on runs of 56 and 27 yards.
The Centurions (2-1, 2-1) rebounded from an upset loss last week by blowing out the visiting Prexies (1-2, 1-2) in the Interstate Conference. David Miller scored the first two touchdowns on runs of 1 and 16 yards..
The Vikings (1-2, 1-2) earned their first win of the season by surging for three touchdowns in the second quarter to defeat visiting West Shamokin (0-3, 0-3) in the Allegheny Conference. Ernest Stewart led Valley with touchdown runs of 1 and 3 yards.
Camren Nelson completed 15 of 16 passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns to lead host Burrell (3-0, 3-0) to victory against Summit (0-3, 0-3) in the Allegheny Conference.
The Highlanders (2-1, 2-1) claimed a hard-fought road victory at East Allegheny (0-3, 0-3) in the Interstate Conference. Nicholas Shuman led McGuffey with 100 yards rushing and a 5-yard touchdown run.
Jared Desensi led Riverside (1-2, 1-2) to victory at Mohawk (1-2, 1-2) in the Midwestern Conference by rushing for 251 yards on 15 carries. Desensi scored on runs of 52 and 46 yards.
A 21-point first quarter pushed the host Sabers (3-0, 3-0) to the victory against Deer Lakes (1-2, 1-2) in the Allegheny Conference. Devan Willyard scored the winning touchdown midway in the third quarter on a 8-yard run.
The visiting Cougars (2-1, 2-1) scored in every quarter en route to an easy Interstate Conference victory at Brownsville (1-2, 1-2). Quentin Briggs scored on runs of 5 and 20 yards.
The visiting Vikings (3-0, 3-0) won at Waynesburg (1-2, 1-2) in the Interstate Conference. Mike Rosebosky scored three touchdowns for Mount Pleasant.
Demetrius Cox scored on a 50-yard run and finished with 116 yards rushing as No.4 Jeannette (3-0, 3-0) rolled to an Interstate Conference victory against host South Allegheny (0-3, 0-3).
