Ambiance Boutiques to open Lawrenceville store

Ambiance Boutiques, a high-end consignment business run by nonprofit Bethlehem Haven, is opening a third location that it expects to be open by the end of this week. The new site at 4735 Butler St. in Lawrenceville joins stores in Oakmont and Regent Square. In addition to designer women's clothing and shoes, and home furnishings, the new site will carry men's clothes. Bethlehem Haven works with homeless women.

Gasoline price in W. Pa. falls 2.2 cents in a week

Western Pennsylvania's average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline is $2.592 at the pump, or 2.2 cents less than last week. The AAA Fuel Gauge also said yesterday that the national average retail price for a gallon of self-serve regular yesterday was $2.563. The average price in Western Pennsylvania a year ago was $3.670.

UPMC wins top 10 ranking in business technology

InformationWeek has named the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center one of its top innovative U.S.-based users of business technology. UPMC was ranked ninth among the top 10 companies, between The Coca-Cola Co. and FedEx Corp. Topping the rankings was CME Group Inc. in Chicago, followed by Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, The Progressive Group of Insurance Cos. and Wells Fargo & Co.

Airline trade group predicts $11B global loss

Global airline losses are headed for a worse-than-expected $11 billion this year, and it's not clear when lucrative business travel will rebound to pre-recession levels, a trade group said yesterday. As late as June, the International Air Transport Association expected airlines to lose $9 billion this year. But airlines lost $6 billion in the first half alone. They're still suffering from high fuel prices, weak demand and falling fares. IATA predicted a 2010 loss of $3.8 billion, and said it didn't expect the industry to be profitable until 2011 or later.

WPAHS selects president of Physician Organization

The West Penn Allegheny Health System has named Dr. Sanford R. Kurtz executive vice president, chief medical officer and president of its new Physician Organization. Dr. Kurtz, who starts Oct. 15, has been chief operating officer and executive vice president of the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass., since 2000. He will design, building and lead a physician organization that integrates West Penn Allegheny's more than 700 physicians.

Koppers Inc. redeeming senior secured notes early

Koppers Inc. said it would redeem $185.8 million in senior secured notes on Oct. 15. The bonds are due in 2013, but Koppers is redeeming them early at a price equal to 103.3 percent of the principal because of increased stability in its markets and the opportunity to reduce interest expense, said Walt Turner, Koppers' president and chief executive.

Excela Latrobe hospital names patient care exec

Excela Health Latrobe Hospital named Douglas Dascenzo vice president for clinical services. He will oversee planning, coordination and delivery of patient care. He had been UPMC South Side Hospital vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer.
