Kurt Angle found not guilty of violating protection order
Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Former Olympic wrestler Kurt Angle today was found not guilty of violating his ex-girlfriend's protection from abuse order.

During a hearing before District Judge Carla Swearingen in Robinson, prosecutors also dropped a charge of driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance.

Mr. Angle, an Olympic gold medal winner and heavyweight champion of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, was arrested Aug. 15 in Robinson on charges of harassing Trenesha Biggers less than two hours after she had obtained a PFA. Police also found in his car a syringe and a container of the human growth hormone Hygetropin.

Michael Santicola, Mr. Angle's lawyer, said his client showed today that he had a legal prescription for the drug.

Ms. Biggers has said Mr. Angle had repeatedly abused her over several months, leaving bruises and bite marks. Mr. Angle said she made up the abuse story, forcing him to leave his home in Moon where she was also living.

Ms. Biggers' testimony today didn't provide proof of harassment the day of Mr. Angle's arrest, Mr. Santicola said.

A hearing on the PFA has been scheduled for Sept. 29, when a family court judge will determine whether the court order should be made permanent.
