Surrounded by former residents of Darfur and local politicians on the steps of the City-County Building, Downtown, yesterday, county Councilman Bill Robinson, center, calls upon those assembled to make sure that those attending the G-20 summit in Pittsburgh next week take notice of the current situation in Darfur and south Sudan.
The Pittsburgh Darfur Emergency Coalition, which marched with other groups to push for peace in Sudan, will post 600 signs on Flagstaff Hill in Oakland that likely will be seen by world leaders. The signs, which will display names of Darfur villages destroyed in Sudan since 2004, will be posted across from Phipps Conservatory, where the dignitaries will meet Sept. 24.
