Two Catholic parishes in the western and eastern sectors of Allegheny County will switch pastors Oct. 1 and another will see a transfer, according to announcements made at early Masses yesterday in Carnegie, Monroeville and Pitcairn.
Under the realignment, the Rev. Joseph Luisi of the consolidated St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Carnegie will become pastor at North American Martyrs Church and School in Monroeville and also at the nearby St. Michael's Church in Pitcairn.
In turn, the Rev. David Poecking of St. Michael's will move to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. The Rev. Thomas Lewandowski, pastor at North American Martyrs, will transfer to St. Camillus Church in New Castle, Lawrence County.
A building committee at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, which was hit hard in the 2004 Hurricane Ivan flood, recently recommended a proposed $6 million renovation and expansion plan involving St. Luke's Church in Carnegie. The shared pastorship at St. Michael's and North American Martyrs may signal the beginning of a possible merger between those two parishes.
