Recruiting: FSU gets Butler girls' basketball star
Thursday, September 03, 2009

Olivia Bresnahan said she loves hot weather.

So, when it came time for the talented Butler Area High School basketball player to decide where she wanted to play in college, she had a warm feeling for Florida State.

Bresnahan, a 5-foot-11 senior guard and one of the top players in Western Pennsylvania, has made a verbal commitment to Florida State. She will sign a letter of intent with the Seminoles in November.

Florida State shared the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title last season and was a No. 3 seed for the NCAA tournament.

The Seminoles were ranked No. 12 in the country at the end of the regular season.

"They started recruiting me kind of late in the process, so a lot of people didn't even know I had them on my list," said Bresnahan.

"When they started recruiting me, I was really interested in them. Then, I went on a visit there [in June] and just loved the campus, the atmosphere, the coaches, and just everything.

"Plus, I love hot weather, so that just made it 10 times better."

Bresnahan was a Post-Gazette Fabulous Five selection as a junior after averaging 18.7 points, 10.2rebounds, 5.8 assists and 3.4 steals. She has 988 career points.

Bresnahan's other finalists were Vanderbilt and Illinois. Duquesne also offered a scholarship, and Pitt was recruiting Bresnahan at one point. But Pitt never offered a scholarship and eventually backed off Bresnahan.

"Pitt said I wasn't exactly what they wanted," Bresnahan said. "That didn't bother me because I knew what else I had. It's all just part of the process."
