A Butler County man faces a string of criminal charges after an 8-year-old girl said he raped her over the course of more than two years.

The girl told state police that Jason Hites, 27, of Harrisville, sexually assaulted her from December 2006 to July 2009 at locations in Mercer and Butler counties.

Mr. Hites is a registered sex offender who was convicted of indecent assault in 2001, according to the state's Megan's Law Web site.

He was jailed this week in Mercer County on charges including rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, sexual assault, indecent exposure, corruption of minors and failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements.

His bond was set at $75,000.
