A Venango County man who was killed in a two-vehicle crash yesterday has been identified as Benjamin W. Horner, 19, of Franklin.

State police in Clarion said Mr. Horner had been driving his Chevrolet Cavalier the wrong way on Route 322 in Ashland when the vehicle collided at 3:48 p.m. with another car traveling in the correct lanes.

Mr. Horner entered Route 322 driving west in the eastbound lanes just west of Stone House Road, police said.

As he drove onto the roadway, his car was struck by a Chevrolet Impala driven by Sandra Haines, 55, of Strattanville.

Mr. Horner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ms. Haines was taken by helicopter to a hospital, police said.

Troopers still are investigating how or why Mr. Horner drove the wrong way before the accident.
