A man was struck and killed by a car last night while he was standing on a highway in Butler County.

Daniel E. Stricker Jr., 21, of Butler, died after he was struck around 11 p.m. by a 2003 Toyota Corolla driven by Bennett J. Giardina, 23, of New Castle. State police said Mr. Strickler was standing on the right lane of Interstate 79 northbound in Muddy Creek, not far from the Portersville exit. It is unclear why he was standing on the highway.

Mr. Giardina was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.
