What: Rock the Quarry: Panhandle Trail.
When: Tonight from 5:30-11 and tomorrow from noon-11 p.m.
How far: Less than an hour from Pittsburgh.
How much: Admission and parking are free. Bring your own chair.
What for: The ninth annual fundraiser for the Panhandle Trail in Collier, a rails-to-trails project. Local bands will perform on the newly constructed outdoor stage along the trail next to a quarry pool in Rennerdale/Walker's Mill. Children's activities, food, games, raffles, a bonfire, cave tours (tomorrow only, first come, first served) and even a rubber ducky race highlight the two-day event. Proceeds benefit the hiking and biking trail that, when finished, will stretch for 29 miles from Walker's Mill in Collier to Weirton, W.Va.
n Fun factor: 9. A summer day, good music and a lovely spot on a biking trail that is gaining popularity -- what could be better? Parking, however, may be at a premium. Consider leaving your vehicle at one of the other trail stations and walking or biking to the quarry. For details go to www.panhandletrail.org.
