Heat's Beasley in rehab?

Miami Heat forward Michael Beasley told his personal manager several days ago that he was working out in Houston because it brought "a change of scenery" from Miami and Washington.

What happened next is a mystery, even to those who know Beasley best.

Beasley reportedly checked into a Houston rehabilitation facility last week and is being treated for various issues, including depression. It was not determined if the other issues included drug or alcohol treatment.

"Based on what I'm getting right now, there's a bit of concern," said Bruce Shingler, Beasley's manager. "I don't really know what's going on. I just know his mom is on her way to go see him in Houston. That's it. I'm still collecting a lot of information."

It's unknown how long Beasley will remain at the facility, or whether he will be available when the Heat open training camp Sept. 28.

A former girlfriend of Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki was sentenced to five years in prison for violating probation.

Cristal Taylor admitted in court that she failed to check in with her probation officer in a 12-year-old forgery and theft case. She also acknowledged being arrested twice in Texas in 2000 for misdemeanors.

Taylor, 38, a St. Louis-area native, said she planned to marry Nowitzki and was pregnant with his child. A Texas judge a month ago ordered Taylor to undergo a paternity test to determine the father, and Nowitzki is seeking sole custody of the child.

Taylor was arrested May 6 at Nowitzki's home in Dallas on a 2006 theft of services charge involving dental work.
