Some Catholic schools to close during G-20

The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh today announced it will cancel classes at 13 elementary schools and four high schools during the G-20 Summit next month.

The schools are all within the City of Pittsburgh, and the diocese cited security and transportation arrangements that would have to be made.

The selected schools will have early dismissal on Sept. 23 and no classes on Sept. 24 and 25.

The schools involved are:

Elementary Schools

  • St. Agnes, Oakland
  • St. Bede, Point Breeze
  • St. Benedict the Moor, Hill District
  • Immaculate Conception, Bloomfield
  • St. John Neumann, Lawrenceville
  • Sacred Heart, Shadyside
  • St. Raphael, Morningside
  • St. Rosalia, Greenfield
  • Cardinal Wright, North Side
  • St. Cyril of Alexandria, Brighton Heights
  • Bishop Leonard-Saint Mary of the Mount, Mount Washington
  • Brookline Regional
  • Holy Rosary, Homewood

High schools affected are Bishop Canevin, Central Catholic, North Catholic and Oakland Catholic.

The board for Pittsburgh Public Schools voted last night to close all of its buildings during the summit.
