'90210: The First Season'

3 stars = Good
Ratings explained

The high school drama is back as the teens from the nation's most popular ZIP code return in a glossy, feature-packaged first season release. A spin-off of 1990s Fox series "Beverly Hills, 90210," the new "90210" maintains the same story lines -- beautiful girls, hot guys, endless amounts of cash and a whole lot of drama -- but with a new cast and guest appearances from some of the stars of the original TV show.

Naive brother and sister Annie Wilson (Shenae Grimes) and Dixon Wilson (Tristan Wild) make the leap from Kansas to Beverly Hills and quickly find out that being themselves isn't enough. Annie and Dixon struggle to stay true to themselves (and their parents) after meeting spoiled rich girl Naomi Clark (AnnaLynne McCord) and jock Ethan Ward (Dustin Milligan). Friendships are broken, drug addictions are battled and love triangles form to remind us the rich may not be so happy after all.

The six-disc set gives you a lot -- and it should -- for the suggested retail price of $54.99 (CBS Home Entertainment). Cast members lead set tours of West Beverly High, the Peach Pit and the Wilson mansion. Featurettes highlight the fashion, music and codes of behavior of West Beverly Hills. If that wasn't enough, there's commentary from the cast, a special feature that highlights the revival of the classic "90210" and a "Day in the Life of Ryan Eggold" following the actor who plays teacher Ryan Matthews.
