Auto Racing: UFo race tour at Lernerville Speedway for 1st time
Friday, August 07, 2009

The UFo Race Championship tour, featuring dirt late models, makes its first appearance today at Lernerville Speedway for the "Lunarville 33."

Tonight's 33-lap race features a grand prize of $2,000 and kicks off a huge weekend for local late model drivers. Tomorrow, the UFo late models travel to Elkins Speedway for a 51-lap feature and a $6,000 grand prize.

Lernerville regular John Mollick leads the UFo late model point over Alex Ferree, Keith Barbara, Jared Miley and former points leader John Flinner.

Saturday at Roaring Knob Speedway outside of Markleysburg, Flinner was running second on lap 28 when he hit the turn four wall ending his night. Mollick had luck on his side while riding in the fifth position. After Flinner's crash, the frontrunners were involved in mishap on the lap 28 restart moving Mollick behind Greg Satterlee.

On the restart, Mollick used an outside move to pass Satterlee on lap 30 and held on for the remaining 11 laps for the $3,000 victory and the UFo point lead.

Tonight is also UFo/DIRTcar Fan Nite at Lernerville with no increase in grandstand admission. The sprint cars and big block modifieds will join the UFo late models.
