Pitt announces non-league basketball schedule
Thursday, August 06, 2009

The Pitt men's basketball team will travel to Kansas City and New York for its biggest games of the non-conference schedule this season, with the other 10 non-league games will be contested within the city limits.

Pitt will play in the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic Nov. 23 and 24 in Kansas City. The Panthers will play Wichita State, Iowa or Texas on Nov. 23 and then will play in either a consolation game or championship game the following night.

On Dec. 8, the Panthers will play Indiana at Madison Square Garden in the Jimmy V Classic.

The only road game of the non-conference schedule is at Duquesne, where Pitt is undefeated since the two city rivals began playing the City game at home arenas earlier this decade. The City Game is set for Dec. 2 at the Palumbo Center.

Pitt opens the season Friday Nov. 13 against Wofford at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers also play Binghamton, Eastern Kentucky, Youngstown State, New Hampshire, Kent State, Mount Saint Mary's, Ohio and Robert Morris at the Petersen Events Center.

The Bighamton game will be on Tuesday Nov. 17 and will begin at 5:30 p.m. That game is part of ESPN's continuous 24 hours of basketball coverage that day, and the game will be televised on ESPN2.

The Robert Morris game will be played in January or February.

Pitt's complete schedule will be released next month with times and dates for all games.
