President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, will be hosting events at cultural spots across the city during next month's G-20 summit at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, the White House announced today.
The president and the first lady will host a welcoming reception Sept. 24 at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Oakland to kick off the two-day summit. The White House lauded the conservatory's green-certified welcome center and tropical forest addition in making the announcement.
G20 participants will stay at Phipps after the opening for a working dinner. Their spouses will leave to attend a separate dinner at Teresa Heinz's farm, Rosemont, in Fox Chapel.
Mrs. Obama also will lead a tour and view a performance by students at the Pittsburgh Public Schools Creative and Performing Arts magnet school, Downtown.
The first lady will also host a luncheon at the Andy Warhol Museum on the North Side, underscoring Warhol's worldwide popularity. The museum has sent traveling exhibitions to 15 of the G-20 nations, the White House noted.
