State police are investigating a two-vehicle fatal accident that occurred yesterday in Jefferson Township, Somerset County.

Police say Charles Chardella, 62, of Somerset, was driving his Suzuki Quadrunner westbound in the eastbound lane of state Route 31. His quad collided head-on with the Ford pickup of Edward Hazlett, 38, of Homer City while rounding a curve at 3:51 p.m.

County Coroner Wallace Miller pronounced Mr. Chardella dead at the scene. Mr. Hazlett and his passengers wore seat belts and suffered minor injuries.
