Pennsylvania angler leads pack after first day of Forrest Wood fishing tournament

On what was called "a perfect day for fishing," Pennsylvania's Dave Lefebre barely outfished the competition on Day 1 of the Forrest Wood Cup.

Lefebre, of Union City, Pa., leads the pro field with a five-fish limit weighing 8 pounds, 13 ounces.

"I'm not 100 percent certain, but I think I had my limit caught in the first 10 casts of the morning," said Lefebre.

David Curtis, of Trinity, Tex., nearly tied, placing second in the pro standings with five smallmouth bass weighing 8 pounds, 12 ounces. Larry Nixon, of Bee Branch, Ark., ranked third with a limit weighing 8 pounds, 4 ounces.

New Jersey's Michael Iaconelli's five-fish stringer weighed 7 pounds, 12 inches; Land o' Lakes Angler of the Year Clark Wendlandt placed 32nd in first day standings with three fish weighing 3 pounds, 9 ounces; and Elizabeth, W.Va.'s Robert Harkness three-fish stringer weighed 2 pounds, 9 ounces.

In the co-angler field Tommy Goldston of Gardnerville, Nev., leads with a five-fish weight of 7 pounds, 10 ounces. Johnstown's Jason Ober ranks 19 in the co-angler field wtih 2 pounds, 5 ounces; and in 23rd place Kane, Pa.'s Doug Caldwell's back-of-the-boat total of two fish weighed 1 pound, 15 ounces.

A total of 333 bass were caught in combined pro and co-angler fields. The pro and co-angler tournaments continue through Sunday.
