Slow Food Pittsburgh kicks off "Of Course U Can: Canning 101," a series of five classes starting Saturday at the Farmers@Firehouse in the Strip District. This class is on pickles, led by Nancy Hanst and Miriam Rubin. For the entire schedule, visit slowfoodpgh.org.

Wining

• The Capital Grille, Fifth Avenue, Downtown, continues until Aug. 23 its Monday wine samplings featuring master sommelier George Miliotes' selections from Argentina, South Africa, Spain and Napa Valley. $10 at lunch, $25 at dinner. You also will have the chance to win one of two weeklong trips to world-class wineries with Mr. Miliotes as personal guide.

Green Egg, no ham

Hearth & Home Furnishings, Zelienople, will hold the first Pittsburgh EGGFest from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Register at hearthandhomepa.com; 724-452-6732. Cost, $15 each or $25 per couple; children under 12 free. Reps from the Big Green Egg will be on hand and enthusiasts will demonstrate how they cook on the grill. Food samplings and recipe swap. The ceramic komodo cooker (aka the Big Green Egg) grills, smokes and bakes with the lid closed.

Charitable events

• Amalfi on Tenth, South Side, will hold a Taste Trip for Olancho from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday. A buffet-style tasting will feature "miracle fruit," berries that make bitter, spicy and sour foods taste sweet. Tickets, $50. Turkish food

Turkish food night begins at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Turkish Cultural Center, 3045 W. Liberty Ave., Dormont. Traditional Turkish food, such as kumpir (stuffed baked potato, a comfort-food special), sarma (stuffed grape leaves), pogaca (salty pastry), rice pilaf and sauteed lamb will be sold a la carte for $1 to $5 (activities@tccpittsburgh.org).
