Armstrong County remains identified
Monday, July 27, 2009

Skeletal remains found Saturday in Armstrong County have been identified as a Cheswick man who committed suicide, Coroner Robert Bower said.

Two campers who had been walking through the woods found the remains of Joseph Edward Grossman, 52, at about 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The skeleton was found about a half-mile south of Allegheny River Lock and Dam 6 and about 300 yards off River Road in the village of Clinton in South Buffalo, Mr. Bower said.

Investigators said it appeared Mr. Grossman had been living in a pickup truck parked nearby, though his last known address was in Cheswick, the coroner said.

A shotgun was found beside his body, which was in advanced stages of decomposition.

He died of a single gun shot wound of the chest, and he had been dead for about a month, Mr. Bower said.

Township police are investigating.
