A Westmoreland County teenager was killed yesterday when he was struck by a Norfolk Southern train while trying to cross the tracks on his way home.
Douglas Albright, 15, of South Greensburg, was sitting on his bicycle near the berm of the Norfolk Southern Track No. 1 in Derry Borough when he was struck, the county coroner's office said.
He was taken to Excela Latrobe Hospital, and he was pronounced dead in the emergency room.
The teen was on his way home when he crossed the tracks near the 100 block of East First Avenue about 9:25 a.m. and the westbound train hit him, Derry police Sgt. James Friscarella said.
The coroner's office ruled the death an accident. Derry police and the Norfolk Southern Railroad police are investigating.
