Susan M. Brimo-Cox, freelance writer/editor and director of public relations for Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, received awards in the 2009 Communications Contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania Press Club: two first-place awards: a first in the columns, informational category for her self-syndicated "Nature's Garden" column; and another in the feature story, general/specialized category for the gardening article "Make black gold from those autumn leaves" written for Remodeling Magazine in southeastern Virginia. Ms. Brimo-Cox also received two second-place awards: one in the PR Printed Materials, four-color Magazine category for the Fayette Nittany Newsline, a magazine she produces for Penn State Fayette in her role as public relations director for the campus; and another in the Publications Regularly Edited by Entrant category for The Glass Bead, the quarterly magazine of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers, for which Ms. Brimo-Cox is the managing editor.

The winner, IntegraCare, manages 10 Senior Living communities in Pennsylvania and Maryland with more than 500 employees. The Work Structure & Processes Award honors a company that facilitates positive change, increases productivity, and creates value in the marketplace and for the company's customers. The winner, Alpern Rosenthal, built a training process around The Predictive Index that was designed to improve internal communications.

Jack Horner Communications Inc. and its client, Parata Systems, have won the 2009 Bronze Anvil Award for "Best Press Kit" from the Public Relations Society of America. The press kit was part of Parata's "Prescription for Disaster" campaign--designed to raise awareness about prescription errors and the role pharmacy automation plays in preventing deadly mistakes. The Anvil-winning entry was an oversized mailing tube disguised to resemble a personalized prescription vial that creatively housed the campaign's news release, survey summary, spokesperson fact sheet and b-roll.
