A state police fire marshal is investigating two house fires that erupted early today in New Castle.

The first blaze, at 719 Cleveland Ave., was reported to Lawrence County emergency dispatchers at 12:10 a.m. No one was home at the time, said a spokesman for the state police at New Castle.

The second fire broke out about two hours later less than a mile away at 406 S. Walnut St. This house was vacant, according to police.

No one was injured.
