Teen suspect in plot to bomb family moved to juvenile court
Saturday, July 11, 2009

An Upper St. Clair teen charged with aiding a plot to blow up a friend's family while they slept had his case sent to juvenile court yesterday.

Eric Evans, 16, will be tried as a juvenile for criminal conspiracy as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

South Fayette police said Mr. Evans provided another alleged accomplice, Thomas Moore, 19, of South Park, with chlorine tablets from the Evans family's hot tub and a gas mask.

Police said Mr. Moore gave the chlorine to Christopher Janney, 16, of South Fayette, who used the tablets to make homemade bombs. Police said Mr. Janney on Oct. 4 placed bottles with chlorine powder next to the heads of family members while they slept.

Mr. Evans agreed to admit some aspects of the crime in order to be tried as a juvenile, Assistant District Attorney Patrick Schulte said, without revealing more specifics.
