A non-profit organization is forming in Collier that will allow people to donate to the development of future parks and recreational sites in the township.
The "Friends of Collier Parks and Recreation" already has been registered with the state, officials noted last night. Approval from the Internal Revenue Service must be obtained, as well as the development and adoption of by-laws, before the new organization can accept donations.
At nearly 13 square miles, Collier already has four parks plus the popular Panhandle Trail, but more space has been preserved at Kelly Park off of Steen Road and the expansion of the Hilltop Road park.
With the help of Pashek Associates, officials and the community, a comprehensive recreation, parks and open space plan was approved last month.
