Crafton extends suspension of officer charged in hit-and-run
Thursday, July 09, 2009

Crafton Council last night decided to continue the suspension of a police officer charged in a fatal hit-and-run on the South Side in 2007.

Patrolman Donnie L. Breeden, 38, of Green Tree, had been suspended with pay since his arrest July 3 on charges of involuntary manslaughter and an accident involving death or personal injury.

Council unanimously approved extending the suspension following a 45-minute executive session. The suspension will remain in effect until the borough completes an investigation of its own into the matter.

"Due process has to be followed," said Councilman Tom Byers.

Mayor Susan O'Connell declined comment, saying it's a personnel issue.

Patrolman Breeden is a 15-year veteran of the Crafton police force.
