Police charge McKees Rocks man with shooting ex-girlfriend
Thursday, July 09, 2009

A jealous ex-boyfriend shot a woman in McKees Rocks Tuesday night after finding her with another man, police said.

Isiah Kirkland, 50, was arrested early yesterday and charged with shooting Patricia Murphy, also 50, at a residence in the 1000 block of Chartiers Avenue.

Ms. Murphy was hit in the side and taken to Allegheny General Hospital in critical condition.

Mr. Kirkland showed up at her home around 11:45 p.m. and used a key to enter, according to a criminal complaint. When he discovered that another man was there, he said to Ms. Murphy, "Patty, how can you be doing me this way?"

He then fired a single shot from a small-caliber revolver, police said.

Mr. Kirkland was arrested at a residence in the 200 block of Singer Avenue. He was charged with aggravated assault, burglary, reckless endangerment and carrying a firearm without a license.

He is being held at the Allegheny County Jail on $50,000 straight bond. A preliminary hearing is set for July 14.
