One of the two independents running against Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is calling for four televised debates with the mayor this fall.
Squirrel Hill attorney Kevin Acklin released a statement today challenging Mr. Ravenstahl to debates on the three network television stations and PBS affiliate WQED. He requested that at least two be town hall style forums with direct questions from residents.
Ravenstahl campaign manager Paul McKrell said "we anticipate the mayor's participation in general election forums" but the campaign will wait until the November ballot is finalized before discussing debates. The nomination deadline for candidates is Aug. 3.
Mr. Ravenstahl won the Democratic nomination and a Republican write-in bid May 19.
There was no immediate response from campaign of fellow challenger Dok Harris. The election is Nov. 3.
