Wednesday, July 08, 2009

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Westmoreland County last night.

The crash happened in Washington Township at 10:07 p.m., dispatchers said, shutting down traffic in the westbound lanes of Route 380 at North Washington Road.

John Byrne, 49, of Apollo, lost control of his motorcyclist and crashed into a construction sign.

He died at the scene.

Just moments before that crash, another motorcyclist was injured in a crash elsewhere in Westmoreland County. Harold Heady Jr., 40, was traveling south on Route 906 at 10:01 a.m. in Rostraver when he attempted to pass a vehicle. When he saw a car approaching in the northbound lane, he tried to move back into the southbound lane but clipped the front of the car, Rostraver police said. He was thrown from the bike and had head injuries. He was flown to Allegheny General Hospital.
