If you have always wanted to meet Shirley Jones, you will have a chance in Pittsburgh in October.
Women in Film and Media Pittsburgh will honor the actress at its Oct. 12 Opal Awards. The venue has yet to be announced but a VIP reception will start at 5:30 p.m., with the program at 7:30 p.m.
Jones, a native of Smithton, Westmoreland County, won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her portrayal of a prostitute in the 1960 drama "Elmer Gantry." Other still to be named women also will be honored.

Giant robots have defeated dinosaurs and woolly mammoths at the weekend box office.
Distributor Paramount says "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" finished the Fourth of July weekend in first place again with $42.3 million.
That puts the "Transformers" sequel narrowly ahead of 20th Century Fox's "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," which took in $41.7 million over the weekend.
Based on estimated revenues Sunday, the two movies had been in a tie for the No. 1 spot with $42.5 million each.

Carol Channing will perform "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" during a "Forever Plaid 20th Anniversary Special Event" being beamed into movie theaters, including two here, Thursday at 8 p.m.
The one-night event will feature the original cast live from the red carpet in Los Angeles, a taped performance of "Forever Plaid," a live performance of numbers never before staged during the play's off-Broadway run and a sing-along.
"Forever Plaid" is a musical revue about a fictitious 1950s group that meets an untimely demise. Participating theaters include the Cinemark at Pittsburgh Mills in Frazer and Showcase Cinemas West in Robinson. For tickets, see www.FathomEvents.com (Vancheri)
