Woman admits embezzling from Brownsville Hospital
Monday, July 06, 2009

A Uniontown woman pleaded guilty this morning to embezzling $200,000 from the now-defunct Brownsville Hospital.

Ellen Pocratsky, 55, was charged in a criminal information with taking the money between April 2000 and January 2005. She worked as a benefits coordinator for the hospital and later was promoted to process automated payroll.

Ms. Pocratsky will be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Terrence F. McVerry on Oct. 9.

Brownsville Tri-County Hospital, as it was most recently known, has a long, troubled financial history. It was forced to close on Feb. 12 when administrators realized they would fall $200,000 short on payroll.

It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy less than a week later.
