A Baldwin woman charged with killing her boyfriend Downtown on Saturday night following the city's fireworks display loaded the bullets into her gun as she walked along Forbes Avenue.
Police were called to the scene of the shooting about 11:50 p.m. on Wood Street near Fifth Avenue.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, Ciara Roberts, 20, had attended the fireworks with her boyfriend, Chondale Terry, his father and other family members. Later, they went to Primanti Brothers in Market Square. About 11:30 p.m., a witness saw the couple leave the restaurant. Mr. Terry was pacing back and forth, and eventually Ms. Roberts walked toward the witness and told him Mr. Terry had her phone.
"[The witness] said that he tried to talk Roberts into going out with him and forgetting about her boyfriend," the affidavit said.
She refused and left, following behind Mr. Terry. The witness left, too, and followed her up Forbes Avenue.
"[He] was several feet behind Roberts when he observed her remove a black revolver from her purse. He also observed her loading the gun as she was walking," the affidavit said.
The witness told police that he then approached Ms. Roberts and told her "'It's not worth going to jail. ... Forget about him.'"
Ms. Roberts again complained that her boyfriend had her phone and that he had called her a "whore."
The witness said the woman put the gun back in her purse, but then crossed the street toward Mr. Terry, who made a derogatory comment toward her.
At that point, the witness saw Ms. Roberts take the gun out of her purse and shoot Mr. Terry once in the chest, the affidavit said.
Ms. Roberts then ran over to Mr. Terry and got on top of him, police said. He was pronounced dead at 12:19 a.m. by paramedics as he was being taken to UPMC Mercy.
Ms. Roberts was taken into custody and charged with one count of criminal homicide.
