Former township secretary charged in theft

A preliminary hearing has been set for Tuesday, July 7, in Slippery Rock, for a former municipal secretary charged with stealing more than $100,000 from government coffers.

Dixie Lynn Christy, 38, of Cherry, Butler County, is charged with 103 counts of forgery, 103 counts of access device fraud, one count of theft by unlawful taking, one count of theft by deception, and one count of receiving stolen property.

She was arrested by state police at Butler July 2 and was released on $15,000 bond.

Police said Ms. Christy had been employed as a bookkeeper for Muddy Creek from 2002 until late 2008. Authorities said she stole $108,848.70 from township coffers between March 2005 and October 2008.

The township offices are located at 1244 Perry Highway in Muddy Creek.

The preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
