Nearly 1,300 runners took advantage of online registration -- and discounted rates on entry fees that came along with registering early -- for the 2010 Pittsburgh Marathon that will be held May 2.
While the one-day discount expired at the end of the day Wednesday, early bird savings and special offers continue at www.pittsburghmarathon.com. For example, during the first week of registration, runners automatically will be entered into a drawing for 50, $25 gift cards from Dick's Sporting Goods and the first 5,000 registrants will have their names printed on personalized bib numbers. The marathon sold out at 10,500 participants this year, with 3,000 people who had wanted to take part in the race turned away. Organizers hope to expand the field this year.
