The August Wilson Center for African American Culture board of directors announced yesterday the appointment of Marva H. Harris as interim president and CEO, effective July 1.
Harris succeeds Neil Barclay, who is leaving to become CEO and executive producer of the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta. Mr. Barclay will assist with the leadership transition before assuming his new post.
Harris, a retired PNC Financial Services Group executive, worked for 18 years as senior vice president and manager of community development. She continues to consult for PNC and has managed projects such as "Save Our Summer" and served on The Pittsburgh Foundation's Pittsburgh Public Service Fund. She serves on the boards of directors of The Forbes Funds and the Hill House Association.
"Mrs. Harris' extensive executive experience and deep understanding of our community make her the ideal candidate to lead the August Wilson Center as we get ready for our September grand opening and launch the inaugural season," said board Chairman Oliver W. Byrd.
An executive search committee has been formed, led by chairwoman Karen Farmer White and vice chairwoman Bonnie VanKirk, who also co-chairs the Center's Capital Campaign Steering Committee. A permanent successor is expected to be named before the end of the year.
