TV Q&A with Rob Owen

Submit your question to Rob Owen

This week's TV Q&A responds to questions about "Kings," Headline News and an extra digital channel. As always, thanks for reading, and keep those questions coming.

-- Rob Owen, Post-Gazette TV editor

Q: Do you know if any more episodes of "Mistresses" were made after the second season? If so, will they be on the air here on BBC America anytime soon?

-- Ann, 43, Franklin Park

Rob: According to a BBC America publicist, nothing has been announced about future episodes of "Mistresses." The show is in limbo.

Q: I was pleasantly surprised when I checked my DVR last night to find that it had recorded "Kings" from Saturday evening. I had set the DVR to record that series when it first came out and had not canceled it when the series went off the air. I see in the TV Week that it is scheduled to air again on Saturday, June 27. Does that mean NBC will finish airing the series?

I was so disappointed when it disappeared from Sunday's programs.

-- Nancy, 68, Bethel Park

Rob: I was a fan of "Kings" in its early going, too, and was pleased when NBC announced it would air the remaining episodes over the summer.

How's this for a change of pace: Saturday night, the lowest-rated night of the week, is now my most active night of viewing broadcast network series as shows get burned off: NBC's "Kings," CBS's "Harper's Island" and ABC's "Eli Stone." Not sure if that says more about my viewing habits or the networks' failures.

Q: Why does CNN continue to call a network Headline News, when some are hour-long monologues? Nancy Graceless indeed. Daytime Headline News is still not great but that's why I get a lot of my news from the Internet.

-- John, 69, Cyclone

Rob: CNN has actually started calling the network HLN rather than Headline News, presumably to deflect from the fact that it is no longer a headline news service.

Q: Recently, I was watching an old episode of "A-Team" on the Retro Television Network. When they came back to the show after commercials for the last few minutes of the episode, the final scene that was shown was actually from another "A-Team" episode that had been aired a day or two earlier.

Until this happened, I had assumed that each episode of a show existed in its entirety on whatever recording medium was used and was also in its proper sequence. Am I wrong?

-- Kevin, 54, Wilkinsburg

Rob: It would seem so. We recently reported on one viewer's experience watching "Rocky" which suddenly switched to "Rocky II."

Q: Has anyone noticed the resemblance between Simon Baker ("The Mentalist") and Billy Bush ("Access Hollywood"). Are they related?

-- Sylvia, Squirrel Hill

Rob: They are not related. They're just two guys with curly blond hair.

Q: When NBC Weather Plus shutdown, WPXI's third digital channel went dark. Are there any plans to make that channel into something else or will it stay dark?

-- Corey, 16, Cheswick

Rob: We reported there were no plans when Weather Plus shut down and there remains no plan to bring the channel back online.

Q: I see that Comcast has finally agreed to carry ESPNU. Any idea when we might see the channel added in Pittsburgh? Thanks for your time.

-- Jeff, 34, Canonsburg

Rob: According to Comcast, they do not yet have a specific launch date.

FEEDBACK

Regarding your rechargeable digital TV and the database problem: If you have a laptop computer, you can purchase a USB TV card that receives DTV signals. I have one from Elgato for Apple, and there is a Windows versions. Works great.

This is a good back up for the new TV age.

-- Adam, 43, North Fayette

This is in response to Don from Freedom's remarks about Comcast Local Edition. It was one of the reasons I switched to DISH Network. I enjoy watching the morning show with Robin Meade and I hated getting to watch only 20 minutes or so when I was getting ready for work. I think it is b.s. when Comcast says there is no other forum for the show. What about their On Demand forum? I am glad to see others are frustrated by this also. And I can't stand Nancy Graceless. Thanks.

-- John, 53, Delmont

VOICE MAIL OF THE WEEK

Mr. Owen, I think you have nothing to do with anything and you ought to be fired and someone ought to take your place. You are the worst editor ever probably. My name is Manfred, Richard Manfred.

-- Another satisfied customer. Male caller who left no phone number and who is not listed in the Pittsburgh phone book so I could call him back (I looked).
