Teacher headed to trial over texts to students
Thursday, June 25, 2009

A teacher at Butler Area Senior High School today waived her right to a preliminary hearing and now faces trial on charges that she sent inappropriate text messages to two students at the school.

Christine Martin 33, of Cranberry, did not comment in the courtroom of District Judge Kevin O'Donnell in Butler Township, and she did not comment afterwards.

Two teens, apparently the victims, were kept in a separate room while the waiver was made, and they also left without comment.

Ms. Martin is accused of sending a 16-year-old boy a text of a sexual nature and a picture of a female exposing her breasts.

Police also said Ms. Martin sent an inappropriate text to a 17-yer-old girl.

Ms. Martin is an English teacher but it is unclear whether she taught the two students.

No trial date has been set, and she remains free on her own recognizance.
