History: Verona has had a fruitful existence, and not just because Daily Juice Products Inc. has its headquarters there. The borough has transformed from a smallish river town largely reliant on manufacturing to one with a number of service industries.

In 1871, Verona was formed out of a subdivision of James Verner's 400-acre farm, and named for the man. The railroad industry eventually gained prominence, as the borough served as an important repair center for steam locomotives owned by the Pennsylvania and Allegheny Valley railroads. It also was home to a large roundhouse near Center and Railroad avenues.

Daily Juice is on the site of the former roundhouse.

Woodings-Verona Tool Works, a tool manufacturer on Jones Street, was founded in 1883. That plant was shut a number of years ago, but the company still exists as Woodings Industrial, based in Mars.

Verona industries also have included lumber yards, steel-casting works and a chemical plant.
