Thompson wins West Penn Open

Indiana Country Club assistant professional and Johnstown native Dan Thompson birdied the 18th hole to edge former PGA tour player Bob Friend and win the 105th West Penn Open at Westmoreland Country Club today.

Thompson, who received $5,200 and a silver trophy for his victory, finished the two-day event with a 3-under 139 as he shot 68 yesterday and even-par 71 today. It is the second time he has won the event as he also won it in 2007 at Nemacolin Woodlands' Mystic Rock course.
