Tuesday, June 23, 2009

A man with severe injuries below the waist was transported to a local hospital via helicopter from the scene of four-vehicle crash in Indiana County this morning, state police said.

State police were dispatched to the crash, which occurred shortly before 8 a.m. A woman also sustained injuries, though minor, and was transported to a local hospital via ambulance.

A driver in a vehicle heading eastbound on Route 22 fell asleep at the wheel and hit a tractor-trailer heading westbound. The vehicle swerved and hit two other vehicles.

Route 22 has since reopened, Indiana County dispatchers said.
