Where to go: Cranberry Glade Lake
Sunday, June 21, 2009

What to do: Plant life impacts the lives of fish more than many people realize. In many Pennsylvania lakes, a free-floating microscopic sea weed turns the water murky, blocking light from reaching other weeds and stunting photosynthesis. The absence of the shade, shelter and structure provided by big, leafy, floating weeds drives bass and other game fish away from the surface and into deeper habitat. Somerset County's Cranberry Glade Lake still has good growth of lily pads and other leafy weeds, as well as standing timber, making it an ideal lake for surface lures and shallow-running weedless bass lures. The shallow 112-acre impoundment is owned by the state and managed by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission for public fishing and boating. Electric and unpowered boats only; all boats must be registered or have a valid launch permit. Launching ramp and parking available.
