Jon and Kate Gosselin, stars of the popular TLC reality series "Jon & Kate Plus 8" will announce Monday that they will file for divorce, Radaronline.com reports. A source confirmed that Kate recently met with a divorce lawyer, and the couple had previously decided to separate by mid-July, but now is moving up the timetable, the Web site reports. TLC has scheduled a special one-hour edition of the show for Monday; in a teaser spot for that episode, Kate says, "We've made some life-changing decisions." (The parents of eight are contracted for 40 episodes this year.) TLC declined to comment, EW.com reported.
A federal jury in Minneapolis has ruled a Minnesota woman violated several music copyrights in the nation's only file-sharing case to go to trial.
The jury found yesterday that Jammie Thomas-Rasset "committed willful violation" of the copyrights on 24 songs. The jury awarded the recording companies $1.92 million, or $80,000 per song, the Associated Press reports.
It was a retrial for Thomas-Rasset, who was also found in 2007 to have illegally shared music files. The new trial was ordered after the judge in the case decided he had erred in jury instructions.
The second outcome was worse for Thomas-Rasset. In the first trial, the jury awarded recording companies just $222,000.
Like his song says, Billy Joel is movin' out...or at least movin' on.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer confirmed Wednesday that he and wife Katie Lee have split, Eonline reports.
"After nearly five years of marriage, Billy and Katie have decided to separate," their publicists say in a joint statement. "This decision is the result of much thought and consideration. Billy and Katie remain caring friends, with admiration and respect for each other."
No word from the 60-year-old Piano Man or 27-year-old former "Top Chef" host on what cooked their marriage -- or whether a divorce is in the works.
The Joels swapped vows in 2004, a year after they first hooked up. It was the first marriage for her, third for him. (He was wed to former business manager Elizabeth Weber from 1971 to 1982 and then to Christie Brinkley, with whom he has a daughter, Alexa Ray, from 1985 to 1994.)
Actor Sacha Baron Cohen's latest movie character, an Austrian fashionista called Bruno, drew gasps and some cheers as he appeared dressed as a bull in front of Spain's main bullring yesterday.
The British actor-comedian who was in Madrid to promote his new movie -- "Bruno" -- arrived in a horse-drawn carriage escorted by muscular matadors just as the sun set on the historic bullring Las Ventas.
"Ich have come to redress the wrong done to the gay community by that Hollywood movie on Harvey Milk which was acted by Sean Penn, who's not even gay," Baron Cohen told a crowd of bemused Madrid onlookers in a German accent.
Baron Cohen's 2006 movie, "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," was a surprise box-office hit.
His new film, which is scheduled for release July 10, features a flamboyantly gay character whose outrageous wit outstrips that of Borat.
Sporting large hooves and a well-endowed furry black bull costume, Bruno strutted on a sand-colored carpet and invited "all cute bullfighters" to his hotel room for a party.
Two Ohio police chiefs are being investigated on allegations that they burglarized the home of a woman carrying twins for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, the Associated Press reported yesterday.
The alleged burglary took place in mid-May in the eastern Ohio town of Martins Ferry, and the allegations against Police Chief Barry Carpenter and Bridgeport Police Chief Chad DoJack surfaced about a week later, said a law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation continues and no charges have been filed.
The burglars were allegedly after "pictures, phone message, all those things" at the home of the surrogate, Michelle Ross, who is no longer believed to be staying in the Martins Ferry area, the official said. Published reports have said she's due to give birth in July.
The official said the allegations are that "two police chiefs were breaking in and trying to sell it to the tabloid," but did not identify the publication.
The Tony Awards are retiring the special theatrical event category, the Associated Press reports.
The category elimination will take effect beginning with the 2009-10 season. The Tonys announced yesterday that qualifying entries will be placed into best play or best musical categories and that the Tonys can still bestow a "Special Tony Award" if merited.
This year's winner of the special theatrical event Tony was Liza Minnelli's "Liza's at The Palace."
