Some G-20 leaders to stay at Nemacolin
Wednesday, June 17, 2009

The ritzy Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Fayette County is accustomed to hosting professional golfers, celebrities, and two former presidents, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. This fall, it also will get a chance to play host to some of the world's top leaders.

At least some of the leaders attending the G-20 economic summit in Pittsburgh Sept. 24-25 are expected to stay at the luxury resort, Nemacolin Assistant General Manager Chris Plummer confirmed today. Mr. Plummer did not know exactly how many of the leaders or which ones would be staying on the grounds, about 35 miles south of Pittsburgh, saying that was still sketchy.

However, all 335 homes, suites, townhouses and rooms at the resort, including those at the AAA Five-Diamond Falling Rock boutique mountain hotel, have been set aside for the event. No rooms are available to the general public Sept. 22-25. The lodging typically runs from $300 to $650 a night.

Mr. Plummer said he is not surprised Nemacolin would be selected to entertain presidents, prime ministers, chancellors and other world leaders. In the past, the resort has played host to a professional golf tournament, national Democratic caucus meetings, and celebrity-studded events. Mr. Clinton and Mr. Bush also have stayed there.

"We host events of this caliber throughout the year. It's what we do. It's not a real stretch for us to pull something like this off," he said.

Among its amenities, Nemacolin has its own landing strip for private planes, two golf courses, an outdoor sporting facility and the only AAA Five-Diamond rated restaurant in the region. Nemacolin is only one of 21 hotels and resorts throughout the world to have AAA Five-Diamond dining and lodging on its premises.
