Pedestrian on Parkway East dies after being struck by car
Sunday, June 14, 2009

A woman died when she was hit by a car this morning on the Parkway East after she darted out of another car, possibly to flee an argument, state police said.

Paula D. Addison, 37, of Mount Oliver, was struck about 5:15 a.m. by a Chevy Cavalier headed west as it exited the Squirrel Hill Tunnels.

Robert G. Long, of Jeannette, the driver of the vehicle, told police he was traveling in the left lane when Ms. Addison ran from his right directly into the path of his car. He said he was unable to maneuver or hit his brakes soon enough to avoid the accident.

A state police representative in the Pittsburgh barracks said troopers were investigating the possibility that Ms. Addison was running away from her boyfriend at the time of the accident but did not provide more details.
