Players can vote for favorite online games
Sunday, June 14, 2009

AddictingGames, Nickelodeon's free online game site, is launching a competition in which players can vote for their favorite games.

"The AddictingGames Showdown" may be the first competition with categories such as Best Performance by a Monkey and Best Stick Figure Stunt. Other categories include: Most Addicting Game, Greatest Escape Game, Best Performance by a Robot, Most Adrenaline Pumping Game and Your Mom's Favorite Game.

The competition spans both the Web and TV: Online voting continues online through June 27, and the "Showdown" finale and winners will air on Nickelodeon at 8 p.m. June 27 between new episodes of "iCarly" and "True Jackson, VP."

AddictingGames is the top-rated game site among males between ages 12 and 24, according to comScore, which tracks Web site visit totals.

There are more than 3,000 action, adventure, shooting, puzzle, arcade and strategy games in the site's collection, which is constantly expanding.

They recently added "NewsGames," a collection of games based on current events. In "Hero on the Hudson," the object is to perform a safe emergency landing. It's based on the real-life event involving a US Airways plane that landed safely on the Hudson River in January.

Other "NewsGames" selections include "Trillion Dollar Bailout" and "Baseball Juiced."
