ALTOONA, Pa. -- Breakfast in Altoona didn't go too well for the Chartiers Valley baseball team.
Chartiers Valley, a WPIAL team, lost to Abington Heights, 3-2, in the PIAA Class AAA final this morning at Blair County Ballpark. The game started at 10.
Abington Heights used two home runs and a nice pitching performance from Steve Mills to turn back Chartiers Valley. Cory Spangenberg hit a two-run homer in the third inning and Tony Castellano added a solo homer in the sixth.
Mills did not give up a hit until the fourth inning. He was relieved by Spangenberg in the bottom of the sixth. Chartiers Valley loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, but Spangenberg got a fly out to end the threat.
Chartiers Valley made things interesting in the seventh, getting RBI singles from Ryan Landy and Brian Rodavich to make it 3-2 with only one out. But Abington Heights brought in Peter Doggett, who got two outs to end the game.
