Two West area high schools will pursue state championships tomorrow at the Blair County Ballpark in Altoona. Chartiers Valley will play Abington Heights, from the Scranton area, at 10 a.m. for the Class AAA championship. Later in the day, South Fayette will take on Brandywine Heights, from the Reading area, for the Class AA title beginning at 7 p.m.
Heritage Valley Sewickley Hospital is in urgent need for volunteers between 7 a.m. and noon each Tuesday to assist in the surgical services waiting area.

Tickets are available for the fifth annual Sam's Summer Splash to benefit the Samuel J. Foundation Sam's Snack Wagon at 6:30 p.m. June 27 at the Scott pool.
Tickets are $5 for age 4 and older and $4 for groups of 10 or more. The price includes refreshments, children's games and music.
The foundation was established by Kelly Johnson, of Collier, in memory of her son, Samuel Jacob Johnson, 3, who died from a brain tumor in November 2003.

The Community College of Beaver County will offer free financial aid workshops for students and parents from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday, 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and 10 to 11 a.m. next Thursday in library room 204 on campus, Brodhead Road, Center.
Participants will receive assistance from CCBC's financial aid staff in filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid online. Attendees should bring income tax documents and W-2 forms.
Computers are limited, so participants should register with the financial aid office at 724-775-8561, ext. 260.
Collier will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Flag Day and the 10th anniversary of its Flag Day Memorial and Veterans Wall with prayers, the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem and speeches from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the township municipal building on Hilltop Road.
Boy Scouts will raise the flag, and Girl Scouts will distribute small flags. Following the program, refreshments will be served at the gazebo on the municipal building's front lawn. In the event of rain, the program will move into the main meeting room.
Collier is the appropriate place for a Flag Day celebration. One of its residents, William T. Kerr, of Rennerdale, lobbied for most of his life for the special day and was at President Harry Truman's side when the Flag Day bill was signed into law in 1949.
The Coraopolis police department will sponsor a bicycle rodeo and child safety program from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot across from the borough building, 923 Fifth Ave.
Participants will receive a free helmet and a raffle ticket for a new bicycle.
